It was great to see everybody at the first round of the 2010 club championship today. It was good to see that the snow and ice of last year did not make a return, and thanks to the hard work of all officials and competitors we managed to fit in all 40 races before it got dark.

New website and improvements to forum

CPKC have a new website! We hope that important information and forms should be easier to find now. Social networking fans will also notice links to the club's pages on Facebook, Youtube and Twitter. There will be more improvements coming soon, so watch this space - we're still tweaking the design, so any comments (good or bad!) would be very gratefully appreciated at webmaster@claypigeonkartclub.com.

We've also made some improvements to the club's online forum (http://forum.claypigeonkartclub.com) - it is now possible to create yourself an account on the forum instantly without waiting for us to activate your account manually. We would love to see as many people as possible making use of the forum - we look forward to seeing you there! Remember that once you have an account on the forum you can also post your comments and views on the news articles from the website.

What a day!!

Today was the day we invited members to join in a work-party and help us prepare for the new season. There was a long list of jobs to be done and I was hopeful we may, at the very least, be able to make a start. The sun came out, the rain stayed off and the members turned up and we just about made our way through the whole list...and them some! Fantastic result!

I want to thank:
Elliott Harries, James Moorcroft, Matt Elliott, Andrew Ryder, Julian Howells, Joe Walmesley and Paul Skipp - our newest volunteer on the Committee... and of course the respective Mums & Dads who all put in a lot of hard work, from refreshing pit spaces markers and numbers and grid positions to washing down windows and picking up bags full of rubbish from around the circuit - what we achieved is far more than I had hoped for and your help is very greatly appreciated.

Each of the members has been given a voucher for a free days practice ahead of a race-day - generously provided by Clay Pigeon Raceway - and we were also kept sustained with tea, coffee, soup and hot-cross-buns all of which went down well in the cold wind.

Club working party

CPKC will be holding a Working Party at the circuit on Sunday 31st January, starting at 10am.

We will require help to get jobs done, so any club members able to help will be welcome. If anyone is able to offer their help, it will be greatly appreciated and they will be rewarded with either and half or full day's free practice depending on time spent at the circuit.

Trophies, Turkey Trot, Tractors, Wheelie bins and more!

Thanks to everybody who came to the dinner and trophy presentation on Friday and the Turkey Trot on Sunday for making it a great weekend.

It was great to see this year's championship winners being presented with their trophies and congratulations are due to all them for their success. Congratulations also to the winners of our extra trophies:

Thanks to Chris Rennison and Cathy Wellington for all the hard work they put into organising the evening.

Saturday evening featured a visit from the world of tractor pulling courtesy of the South West Tractor Pullers Association. A 2.5 ton, 1000 horsepower tractor was on display, and then started up as darkness came. Take a look at the amazing display below. The V12 26L engine in the tractor is from a Rover Meteor tank and has 2 spark plugs and 4 valves per cylinder (24 and 48 respectively in total). It runs on methanol of which it uses about 5 gallons in a 150m run (it also uses 5 gallons in the 4 minutes that this video takes to play!).

Sunday was of course the Turkey Trot. Thanks to Colin Clark, our on-site caterer for providing a prize of a turkey to the winners of each class! We also ran the first ever CPKC Wheelie Bin race during the day. Three heats were held at lunch time with the top two teams (consisting of a Cadet driver in the bin and two 'engines' - a Junior and Senior driver each - on pushing duties) from each competing in the final at the end of the day. Ginetta drive available at CPKC this weekend ... and more ..

This weekend is the CPKC Turkey Trot! As usual the winners of each class will receive a turkey supplied by Colin Clark Meats, but we also hope to have some extra events on:

The world of tractor pulling will be be on show on Sunday, with a demonstration of the sheer volume of a two and half tonne, 28 litre V12 tractor!

Look out for our CPKC Turkey Trot Quizbook during the weekend, full of crosswords, riddles and many other puzzles.

There is also a special prize for the winner of the Senior Rotax Max Final. Racing Perfection is providing the winner with a free entry to the Racing Perfection Ginetta Scholarship. The scholarship tests drivers on and off the track with sessions in a Ginetta G20 along with media training and fitness analysis and advice. One final winner will then be picked and provided with a free season�s racing in the 2010 Ginetta Challenge with the team. The normal entry fee is �379.00 (may be subject to VAT). Due to late announcement of this fantastic prize, late entries will be accepted.

On the Friday (11th December) is the Annual Dinner and Trophy Presentation (7.30 for 8pm). Tickets are �15 and available from the Clay Pigeon Raceway reception (01935 83713). Book soon as we expect tickets to sell out quickly. From 4pm on Sat 12th December we will be holding a Kart Boot Sale. Just �5 per boot - including mulled wine and mince pies!
